In this project, the visitor is a child who, driven by curiosity and wonder, ventures into a labyrinth of soft and pure volumes, enveloped in a dreamlike dimension made of black and white, of fullness and emptiness, inviting them to get lost rather than find a way out.
In the heart of San Benedetto in Cagliari, a predominantly commercial district, the new Phi porte showroom has been created. Phi porte is a leading group in the production and marketing of windows and doors. Upon receiving the assignment, the challenge was to design an exhibition space in a completely glass-walled building with the need to also include areas for offices and direct sales.
The concept was driven by the idea of making the exhibition path a true discovery of the product. Unlike what typically happens in a showroom, where items are displayed in a series to showcase as much as possible, filling the viewer’s gaze with information, we chose to create a space where the sale was linked to the wonder of surprise. The various types of windows and doors are contained in rounded volumes of different heights, rising from the floor toward the high ceiling, yet never touching it, giving the feeling of a labyrinth to be discovered.
In this project, the visitor is a child who, driven by curiosity and wonder, ventures into a labyrinth of soft and pure volumes, enveloped in a dreamlike dimension made of black and white, of fullness and emptiness, encouraging them to get lost rather than find a way out.
The search for fluidity in the path is transformed into material through the use of curved lines which, in such a regular space as the one presented, help guide the visitor from one sector to the next, allowing them to get lost in something fascinating and anything but predictable. The doors have been installed within white volumes, fitting perfectly into the metaphysical context created, making them an integral and necessary part of the space—an aesthetic device, but also functional to the sale, designed so that the customer could touch and experience the functionality of each window or door on display.
The sinuous curves on the vertical planes are reflected on the floor by a series of custom-cut mirrors that expand the depth of the space and once again play with the curiosity of those who walk through these areas. The soft lines seamlessly transform, becoming floor, structure, and design elements of the furniture.
The area dedicated to face-to-face sales with the customer is enclosed by a curved wall, which, like an embrace, holds a custom-designed marble table, light and sinuous, in complete harmony with the environment.
The offices, necessary for the final stages of the sale where the customer requires privacy and exclusive attention, were designed as reserved spaces but still recognisable. They are separated by full-height, soundproof, operable glass walls, which maintain a view of the exhibition space while offering the necessary intimacy.
The use of black and white, the quintessential contrasting colours, allows the product to stand out without exposing it blatantly. A nearly metaphysical vision, between dream and reality, makes this project a true evolution of the concept of display for sales.
