Like a real medieval castle, the almost impenetrable walls of the stone volumes are preceded by a body of water that wants to recall a moat but with contemporary and angular shapes, a filter element that comes between the house and what is other than it.

Villa Azzurra was born in the locality called Terra Mala, in the Municipality of Quartu Sant’Elena. This place owes its name to the apparent inhospitality of the land, unsuitable for cultivation due to the massive presence of hard stones. However, this corner of land has an inestimable value: an exceptional view of the Gulf of Cagliari that enchants visitors and constitutes its true element of value.

The concept that moved this project was the reference to a deep-rooted architecture, a discreet fortress that could reserve itself to embrace only the best view of this territory, instead offering privacy and confidentiality where it was necessary to integrate more with the surrounding landscape. In fact, two simple volumes emerge from the road, made of stone to recall the same stones that emerge from that same land. In this way the house closes itself to prying eyes and instead turns its deepest identity made of unscrupulousness and wonder on the opposite side, overlooking the sea. Like a real medieval castle, the almost impenetrable walls of the stone volumes are preceded by a body of water that wants to recall a moat but with contemporary and angular shapes, a filter element that comes between the house and what is other than it.

Once past the entrance walkway, the house reveals itself in all its completeness: surprisingly, the dichotomy between the stone volumes, impassable and massive, and the completely glass surfaces that develop in favor of a breathtaking view directly on the sea emerges: a completely glass plane, interspersed with projecting canopies that guarantee both the necessary shade and a decisive, almost overbearing aesthetic character, in antithesis to the decidedly more timid discretion of the street-facing facade.

Inside, the house hosts all the essential functions on the ground floor: kitchen and dining room in one wing and separate living room in the opposite wing, two glass parallelepipeds interspersed with a green patio that emphasizes the direct contact with the nature of the place. The bedrooms and bathrooms are located in the most private blocks, while the basement hosts various rooms that can be used for the most varied uses. All around the living area there is a paved terrace that acts as an extension of the living room itself. This hosts a dedicated barbecue area near the internal kitchen, and a relaxation area with sofas built into the large infinity pool that merges with the horizon, blends with the view of the sea as if it were an integral part of it.

The mix with natural elements such as stone, wood, the sea itself, allow this villa to connect intensely with the landscape so as to give every visitor the experience of a complete immersion in this very suggestive place.
